One World, One Health

Sermon: Marsha Sousa    Special Music: Susan Grace

“One Health” is the belief that the health of humans, animals, and the environment are so inextricably linked that one cannot be healthy unless all are healthy. As we gather to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day in the midst of a global pandemic, we are living the truth of our interdependence in ways that make clear both the peril and promise of this moment. Join us for a service grounded  in reverence for our Earth and stubborn hope for our present and future.

“We Are All Stardust”

Minister: Rev. Leslie Ahuvah Fails

“For small creatures such as we, the vastness is bearable only through love.” -Carl Sagan

In the spirit of astrophysicist Carl Sagan’s belief that “we are all stardust,” this service will explore our place in the cosmos as “starstuff” contemplating itself and our place in a vast, ever expanding universe. This service will celebrate what we know — and what we don’t know — in equal measure.

The Story We Find Ourselves in

Speaker: Jana Peirce  Lay Leader: Rev. Leslie Ahuvah Fails  Music: Susan Grace

What is the life story that we tell ourselves about who we are? What happens when the events that unfold in our lives don’t follow the script we’ve
written for ourselves? Cognitive scientists are finding that autobiographical story-telling has great influence over the choices we make and how we respond to crises. This service will explore how we create and use personal narrative and what happens when we find we need to write a new ending.

Finding Meaning in Mortality

Coordinators: Rev. Leslie Ahuvah Fails and Eric Muehling  Music: Marsha Sousa

Recognizing our mortality can help us take stock of our lives. Is life a circle? Or linear journey? Unitarian Universalist views about life after death are informed by both science and spiritual traditions. This service explores emotional, spiritual, cultural, and religious understandings of mortality.
