“If the world is to be healed through human efforts, I am convinced it will be by ordinary people, people whose love for this life is even greater than their fear.” – Joanna Macy
This year, Earth Day falls squarely in the season of miracles, between the Christian festival of Easter and the Jewish celebration of Passover. Knowing the threat is great and the odds are long, how can we become the miracle we need?

Visiting Minister: Rev. Lois Van Leer
Lay Leader: Rev. Leslie Ahuvah Fails
Music: Laurel Holmes
This Sunday, we take a deep breath. We have been engaged in a labor of love and spirit, working to expand Fairbanks equal rights ordinance to include LGBTQ people. Now our thoughts turn to what comes next. What does it mean to be an ally in the fight against white supremacy and the battle for transgender rights? Who does the most harm — the public bigot or the knee jerk liberal? Is being an ally enough?

Unitarian Universalists have a strong history of advocating for LGBTQ civil rights. Marriage equality has been achieved, and equal protections may not be far behind. Is that the end of the story, or is there more work for us to do to achieve a fully inclusive society?

Our annual “Love is Like a Box of Chocolates” service gives us the chance to reflect on the many meanings of that overworked word, love. We know what Hallmark and Hollywood think, but what does love mean to you? We ask an assortment of people to give us their thoughts on the subject – in word, verse, and song — in 1-3 minute bite-sized morsels. Everyone who joins us will get a piece of chocolate as part of the chocolate communion. As Lucy says in Peanuts, “All I really need is love, but a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt!”

It’s safe to assume that if you’re a UU, you’ve got questions. If you’ve got deep theological conundrums, ethical quandaries, or playful paradoxes taking up space in your brain, this is your chance to have our minister take a crack at them from the pulpit. This program will be made up entirely of your queries and Rev. Leslie’s answers to them.
