The Peace Process

The Process

Preliminaries

  1. Agree to the ground rules.
  2. Read silently through the 7 UU Principles and contemplate them individually for 5 to 10 minutes.

The Questions (addressed to each person in turn)

  1. Why are you here at this meeting? What do you expect to get out of this?
  2. Why are you a member of UUFF? What do you expect to get out of your participation in UUFF services and activities?
  3. How do you see this conflict in light of your goals?
  4. How do you think your proposed resolution is manifested in the Principles?
  5. If not resolved at this point, proceed:

  6. What is it that the other person has shared that you agree with?
  7. If this does not bring resolution, then:

  8. How does the 1st Principle relate to the conflict?
  9. Alternate questions 5 and 6, moving through all 7 Principles until a resolution is established.

Possible Outcomes

  1. Both parties resolve the conflict to their mutual satisfaction.
  2. The parties agree to disagree (with no mutual resolution) and decide that, because their participation in the Fellowship is more important than their participation in the conflict, to stop pursuing and energizing the conflict.
  3. The conflict is irreconcilable and the parties decide that their participation in the conflict is more important to them than their participation in the Fellowship and they agree to leave.
