A Welcoming Congregation

We are a welcoming, open and affirming congregation, a place where people of all races, religious backgrounds, sexual orientations and gender expressions are welcome to come just as they are. In 2007, members of the Fellowship voted overwhelmingly to become an official Welcoming Congregation. The UUFF sanctuary is available for weddings and civil union ceremonies.

Nationally, the UUA has taken a lead in advocating the freedom of same-sex couples to marry, most recently through the Standing on the Side of Love campaign. The UUA has been on record as supporting the rights of bisexual, gay, and lesbian people since 1970. More recently, the denomination has come out in support of the rights of transgender individuals.

Sunday Services

The fellowship meets at 10:30 a.m. Sunday mornings. Though historically a lay-led fellowship, we have hired a 1/4-time minister, Rev. Sarah Schurr, for 2010-11, and we occasionally invite guest ministers from the community and visiting ministers from other UU fellowships in Alaska, Canada and the Lower 48.

Our worship services are normally diverse, and you can expect to hear many voices speaking on a variety of topics over the course of the year. Our services feature guest speakers, visiting ministers, facilitated discussions on spiritual and social concerns, and dramatic presentations. Music and ritual are always a part of the worship service. Seasonal services include an outdoor Advent garden, the traditional UU flower communion and the Maypole celebration.

Worship services last approximately 75 minutes and are followed by a social gathering with coffee and refreshments. Childcare is available for toddlers and preschoolers, and Religious Exploration classes for older kids during the service. Although we do not currently offer infant care, parents are welcome to bring babies to services where a crying room is available if needed.

We are located at 4448 Pikes Landing Road, across from the Princess Hotel.
Directions: From Airport Way, turn onto Hoselton Road at Pike’s restaurant. After one block, turn left onto Pikes Landing Road as if you were going to the Princess Hotel. Look for the Unitarian Universalist “One Way Of Many” sign on the right. Parking is available along the drive or in the parking area in back of the building.

The Northern Log

UUFF publishes a monthly newsletter, the Northern Log, which is distributed electronically and by mail. Each issue has a calendar for the coming month, descriptions of upcoming services, and current news about Religious Exploration (RE) classes, chalice circles, social activities, etc. Occasionally, there is also some regional and national UU news and opportunities. There’s always a letter from the fellowship’s president. To receive the link to download each month’s newsletter, join the Announcements email list. Print copies of the current newsletter are available in the foyer. Contact us if you prefer to get the newsletter by mail (or if you would like to receive only the newsletter emails, and not other UUFF announcements). Non-members who elect to get the newsletter by mail will be asked to pay a small annual subscription fee to cover printing and mailing costs.
