Kafka Comes to America: Potluck, lecture and discussion

The UUFF building has been wearing the words “Torture is Wrong” on a banner by the main Fellowship’s entrance for several years. On Friday, May 6 at 6:30 p.m. UUFF joins with the ACLU of Alaska to host a potluck, lecture and discussion with Steve Wax, a federal public defender, who will speak on the issue of the moral and legal authority of torture. Author of the book, “Kafka Comes to America,” Mr. Wax will discuss how our civil liberties have been eroded by security concerns. There will be copies of his book for sale, with proceeds to be given to UUFF. This is a free event open to the public. Read More »

UUFF Annual Meeting

Our annual UUFF business meeting will take place after a short service.  This meeting  is the one time a year when all members of the congregation come together to take part in the structure and governance of our fellowship.  We will receive reports from the various committees and groups, recognize those who actively take part, and vote on the posted by-law changes, and vote for new board members.  If you have other issues that need to be brought to the attention of the whole fellowship, the annual meeting is your best opportunity.  Unitarian Universalists operate under democratic process.  Come to the meeting and take part in that process!  Child care will be available, and lunch will be provided.

Easter Sunday

Many of us observe certain traditions that have been handed down to us by our parents and grandparents. What are the roots of these traditions? This program is an exploration of the multicultural origins of Easter traditions and the symbolism associated with these traditions.

Transitions and Milestones

Join us in celebrating the milestones and transitions in our Fellowship, our families, and our lives. This service will include a child dedication for families who request it.

Good Guilt/Bad Guilt

Sometimes guilt just gets in our way.  But sometimes it is important, even for UUs, to feel guilt when they do something wrong. Come explore this complicated topic.

Your Myers-Briggs Type and Your Faith Journey Seminar

A one evening seminar with Rev. Sarah Schurr.  People are different from each other, even within Unitarian Universalism!  This shows up in the diversity of our individual search for truth and meaning. Some of us like quiet meditation or journaling while some of us like to hit the streets to cry out against injustice. Contact Rev. Sarah with questions on the Myers Briggs, this seminar, or to RSVP for the event.  She can be contacted at sschurr@uuma.org or call her at 503-936-0479.

Adult RE Parenting Class

Minister Sarah Schurr and  Director of Religious Education Bre Griffin team up to teach this two part class on parenting for Unitarian Universalists.  How do we guide our children in our UU values?  How do we answer questions about life, death, and God? How can we learn the life lessons that parenting has to teach us? We will talk about all this, and more.

What Will You Think of Next?

This Sunday: As we begin our canvass season Rev. Schurr will be talking about support of our Fellowship. This is not so much a “sermon on the amount” but a sermon about the mission of our Fellowship and how it can move forward.
