This Sunday: This Winter Solstice Celebration has become our traditional, non-traditional program, complete with unique rituals, singing, dancing, and celebration to acknowledge the shortest day and longest night of the year, appreciated even more by living in the Arctic. In ancient times, observers watched the sun sink lower in the sky each day, and feared it would disappear completely and leave them in darkness. People practiced special rituals intended to entice the sun’s return. Bonfires and candles, with their imitative magic, helped fortify the waning sun and ward off the spirits of darkness. Read More »

This Sunday: Katherine Norgard will share her personal experience with the death penalty, a subject which she has written and spoken about with other Unitarian congregations. Katherine has been a visitor at UUFF while working in Fairbanks for 45 days this fall. She lives in Tucson and teaches at ASU School of Social Work, where she is primarily engaged in consulting activities and facilitating psychodrama groups at dual diagnosis treatment centers (substance and psychiatric issues). Her most recent book is Hard to Place: A Crime of Alcohol, details her experience with capital punishment. Music, Laurel Holmes. Lay leader, tba.

This Sunday: A Holiday Pageant celebrating a variety of traditional ‘winter lights’ from around the world, this intergenerational holiday program written by Layne Richard-Hammock was developed based on ‘Lights for Lucy’, a story written by Connie Dunn. Presenters: Bre Griffen and UUFF RE classes. This is a Lo Carbon Sunday (the first Sunday of the month), so if possible, please carpool or bike to service.
