UUFF KUAC-FM Pledge Drive Update

Thank you to everyone who pledged to KUAC-FM through the fellowship! We have raised $2,460 (updated 11-4-09) in pledges enabling us to continue sponsoring Weekend Saturday and Sunday for most of the next year. If you meant to pledge but haven’t, this Sunday (Nov 1) is the last day to make a pledge (and the last day to bring in your check if pledged previously). Remember, checks need to be made out to UUFF. Just add a notation somewhere on the check that says KUAC.

Beyond the Veil: A Day of Remembrance

During the Celtic festival of Samhain, when it was believed that the veil separating this world from the next was at its thinnest, people provided hospitality for dead ancestors. Even if you are not a pagan (or a pagan at heart), it is a good time to acknowledge loved ones who are no longer with us and keep them close through memory. Come slip behind the veil for just for a moment to light a candle in memory of someone who gave joy or meaning to your life. If you would like, bring a photograph or memento to place on the memory altar. You may share a brief detail that brings them back for you or light your candle in silence. Lay Leaders,  Penni Haskins and Shaun Lott. Accompanist, Laurel Holmes.

Unitarianism Begins I: Michael Servetus

In honor of the 456th anniversary of Michael Servetus’ martyrdom, we’re reposting this sermon which the late Rev. Frank Schulman deliverd at UUFF on Sept. 7, 2003:

Unitarian history is difficult to trace because we don’t begin with any one person. It can be traced back to Judaism and early Christianity. Modern Unitarianism, though, goes back to the early Reformation. It is an exciting story and it will unfold in two sermons. First, though, some background. Read More »

Worship That Works

UUA’s WorshipWeb also includes material on UU worship theory, designing worship that works, and leading congregations. They also keep a list of the top ten things you can do to improve worship in your congregation.

Lay Leader Script

(temporarily unavailable) – Includes general tips on what to do before and after the service. Print it and practice (or at least review) before the service. Add in your own notes and transitions. There should be a copy on the podium. This is meant as a guide only. Feel free to improvise.

Lay Leader Workshop – Please sign up!

Peter Pierson will conduct a lay leader workshop on November 8 building on the theme of the service. Participants, please bring a personal story, one which might shed some light on your beliefs and/or faith. We will spend time bridging how such stories do “fit” into Unitarian Universalism, and how to incorporate personal story into a worshipful UU experience. Workshop is from 12:00 – 2:30 with a light lunch provided. This is indended for both current and prospective lay leaders (as well as past lay leaders who want to brush up on their skills). Contact Shaun Lott or Michael Walleri if you are interested.

Supper Club Schedule

The UUFF SUPPER CLUB meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month. Please call Marilyn 452-4532 with any questions and to let her know you’re coming so she can make reservations. Remember: You’re going to sup… let’s sup together (even if you just want an appetizer and a glass of wine)! Here’s the restaurants we’ll be sampling this year: Read More »
